very year thousands of runners and walkers descend upon Hamilton City Centre for one of NZ's most beloved and oldest annually contested events, Round the Bridges!
Established in 1945 by the Hamilton Harrier Club (now the Hamilton City Hawks), RTB started out as a road race designed to showcase some of NZ's top athletes, with past participants having included Barry Magee, Peter Snell and Dick Quax. Given its popularity, the event grew from strength to strength, eventually becoming the fantastic community event you see today!
Nowadays, the event welcomes people of all shapes and sizes from primary school students right through to running legends. With medals for every participant, on-course musical entertainment and thousands of fun-loving runners and walkers, RTB offers an awesome day out which the entire family can enjoy.
The Course
Famous for its iconic landmarks and scenic views, the Round the Bridges course takes participants along some of Hamilton's most well-loved spots, including the Waikato River paths, the Hamilton Gardens and the vibrant CBD. The course is suitable for all participants and is fully wheelchair accessible.
In order to keep you hydrated en-route, drink stations are placed at key locations on both the 6km and 12km courses. These stations use environmentally friendly BioCups which offer a sustainable way of quenching your thirst.
There will also be a musical flavour out on course, with our 8 HotSpot performers being strategically located to keep you well and truly entertained!
