The "beautiful game" honored over the weekend

The weekend of the 3rd and 4th October will vibrate with the sounds of community groups cheering their soccer team at the NZ Ethnic Football Festival in Gower Park, Melville. 24 men teams will defend their colors over the weekend to be crowned Plate or Shield winner of the 2015 edition of the iconic tournament.
The Finals of both division will be played on Sunday: 2.30pm for the Plate final and 3.30pm for the Shield final.
Participants and supporters will enjoy family activities and ethnic food on both days as well as sports performances (Cheerleading, martial arts...). For more information contact Patricia Novoa, Event coordinator, on 853 2192.

Be part of the Cultural Village 2016

The Cultural Village has been a project of the HMS Trust since 2014 and aims to showcase the cultural diversity of the wider Waikato Region by gathering flavours and colours representing our Migrant and Refugee communities.
Part of the Waikato Show (former Waikato Winter Show), the Cultural Village will take place in the Claudelands event Centre from the 8th to the 10th April 2016 and hopes to be the vibrant centre of ethnic foods and crafts for visitors to discover while watching cultural performances.
Suzel Hooper, Cultural Village Event Coordinator, is now looking for food and crafts vendors to join the Village during the event as well as cultural performers wanting to entertain the crowds. Community groups and organisations are welcome to have a stall to promote their activities and services to the wider public.
The 2015 edition of the Cultural Village saw many vendors selling out their food on Saturday and/or Sunday and organisers received many positive feedback from the general public, vendors and other Show coordinators within the Waikato Show.

Success for Kiribati Learners!

Passport 2 Drive was approached by the Kiribati Community to deliver a course to support 8 people pass their Learner’s Licence. Robbie Tahau, our competent Driving Instructor facilitated the course over six 2 hour sessions. The participants were provided a Road Code Manual as well as a Handbook to work through. Towards the end of the course, the learners were also given access to online practice tests in the computer room. We are thrilled to announce that all 8 learners are now proud holders of a NZ Learner’s Licence!  These learners are keen to begin their journey of working towards their Restricted Licence over the next 6 months. Keep an eye out in our next newsletter for photos of our graduation which will be held on Thursday 1st October at 6:00pm.
