Hamilton chef Luke McGowan's culinary skills secured him a spot as a finalist in New Zealand's top vegetarian dish competition. The 32-year-old Dough Bros. chef's butternut pumpkin pizza was named in the top three breakfast/brunch category of this year's New Zealand's Vegetarian Dish Challenge 2015.

COUNCIL SEEKS FEEDBACK ON HERITAGE PLAN
Heritage building owners could soon apply for help with maintenance and restoration costs if the Council’s draft Heritage Plan and funding guidelines go ahead.
The draft plan and funding guidelines set out the Council’s approach to ensuring structures, buildings and areas of heritage significance in the city are identified and conserved for future generations.

MATARIKI IN THE CITY - 18th July 9.00am – 3.00pm
Matariki is commonly known as the Māori New Year and is marked by the rising of the cluster of stars named Pleiades or Matariki according to Maaori. This special season it is a festive time, a celebration of people and the rich cultural fabric of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
To celebrate Matariki Hamilton Libraries has organised a day of activities at the Central Library and Garden Place. There will be manu aute (traditional kite making), the Cosmo Dome - New Zealand’s leading mobile planetarium, and traditional Matariki stories in Central library. Outside in Garden Place there will be cultural performances, market and kai stalls, face painting, finger nail painting, and tamoko stencils. Join in a fun filled day for the whole whanau.

DRESS YOUR WINDOW COMPETITION
In May we put a challenge out to all businesses owners to enter the FIFA U-20 'Dress your Window Competition'. We had a great response and a group of enthusiastic business owners took the time to dress their windows. The window dressings were fantastic and they contributed to the overall feel in the city during the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

TOURISM FUNDING INCREASE POSITIVE FOR THE REGION
Hamilton & Waikato Tourism is set to receive an injection of funding from its local government partners to further boost tourism in the region.
From July 2015 the local regional tourism organisation (RTO) which is tasked with marketing the Waikato tourism attractions to domestic and international visitors, will receive $1,215,000 annually from the seven councils (Hamilton City, Waikato, Waipa, Matamata Piako, Waitomo, Otorohanga and South Waikato Districts), an increase from $810,000.
