Three women found dead in a suburban Christchurch house today were related, police say.

Police were called to the house in Apsley Drive in Russley about 10.30am, Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas told NZPA.

The bodies of a mother, in her 40s, and two teenage daughters were found and police were not looking for anyone else in relation to the deaths, she said.

Ms Le Bas would not confirm the family's nationality, although they are reported to be from Korea.

Their closest family lived overseas and police were trying make contact, Ms Le Bas said.

The matter has been referred to the coroner and post mortem examinations would be completed tomorrow.

"Until the post mortem is completed ... I really can't say anymore," Ms Le Bas said.

A real estate sign outside the family's home showed it was due to be auctioned on April 26.

"I haven't got anything to say, I'm just really sorry for their extended family and the Korean community," a real estate agent whose name was on the sign told NZPA.

3 News tonight reported immigration officials visited the property this morning. A spokeswoman for the Immigration Service declined comment tonight and said any questions should be directed to police.
