Hamilton City Council is very concerned that our migrant communities are being misinformed from people who are targeting these communities, to put in satellite dishes that receive overseas TV channels.
· Satellite dishes must not be bigger than 1.2 metres across, if they are they require Council permission.
· They cannot be closer than 3 metres to the road, and 1.5 metres to the neighbours property boundary.
· Some of the neighbours may need to “give permission” for the dish to be installed on the property, if it can be seen by them.
· Consents currently cost $1512.00 and costs may increase from 1 July 2010.
· Installers are charging to put in these dishes and then charging to have them removed when Council have asked the owners for consent, meaning our residents are being charged twice for a service that they no longer have.
Our migrant communities are being targeted by people who know that Council permission is required first, but are not being told of this. I would also like to find out who is targeting these communities.
If anyone wishes to install a satellite dish, please can they contact me first so I can help them before they pay someone to install the satellite dish.
